An agricultural specialist, Mohammed Al-Bukhary, urged to minimize the number of existing palm trees in Saudi Arabia, based on local market consumption, reported Al Watan. Bukhary called to lessen the number of the existing palm trees to three million, which is enough to satisfy the domestic date consumption. Local date producers encounter serious marketing difficulties in foreign markets. They incur up to $800 million losses because of these difficulties, which is equivalent to 10 million palm trees. — (menareport.com)
