The King Abdul-Aziz seaport in Dammam has reported rising freight operations in the first quarter of 2000, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
In an article appearing in Al-Riyadh daily, the director general of the seaport, Naeem Ibrahim Al-Naeem, was reported to have said that the number of ships arriving to the port had grown from 431 to 486 during that period, representing a 12.8 percent rise. The volume of cargo shipped via the port expanded from 2,456,448 tons to 2,958,126, constituting a 20 percent increase.
The number of containers exchanged through the port rose from 100,140 to 112,550 in the first quarter of 2000, from the corresponding period in the previous year.
