World Environment Day 2017 Connects LG Employees With a Worthy Cause

As part of an ongoing effort to support environmental initiatives and while reiterating its continuous support towards making “Life’s Good”, LG Electronics (LG) is committed to supporting environmental conservation programs across the region.

Being the biggest annual event for positive environmental action, World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5^th, and it creates an ideal opportunity for robust CSR activation programs to understand the importance of world heritage and environmental protection.

LG has been celebrating World Environment Day by volunteering activities with employees around the world since 2010.  As long-time partner of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), LG Electronics has been screening the organization’s World Environment Day (WED) video on its outdoor LED displays in the New York City Times Square throughout the month of June, and engage in environmental activities with employees around the world. Continuing the trend this year too, LG’ giant screens in New York’s Time Square will run ‘Connecting People With Nature’ video by UNEP.

While maintaining the momentum across the region and supporting this year’s theme and the spirit of coming together for a common cause, LG employees across the region have connected through various environmental and group activities that positively impact the communities in which they operate.

LG strongly believes in responsible environmental stewardship and in line with this has identified environmental conservation as one among the global CSR pillars. With World Environment Day bringing together the global community to make a global impact, we are certain that our ongoing efforts not only support the environment but make lasting changes among our employees to become forever agents of positive social change,” said Kevin Cha, President, LG Electronics, Middle East and Africa.

To celebrate World Environment Day 2017, LG employees will conduct numerous environmental activations including e-waste clean ups and awareness campaigns in the Gulf region and across Egypt. LG employees in Jordan plan a clean-up of Wadi Rum, and in Lebanon there will by a full day of tree planting and awareness workshops. In Algeria, a cleanup of a world heritage site will engage employees and the community. Various other activities will also take place across the region including beach clean ups in Nigeria, national park clean ups in Kenya, clean up activity in Ethiopia, and much more.

Staying true to its corporate social responsibility slogan – Life’s Good with LG – the company aims to continue to actively contribute and sustain its integrated CSR initiatives in 2017 by continuing to support and engage with various community initiatives across the Middle East and Africa region. 

The company actively participates and contributes to global initiatives like World Environment Day with over 41 business sites in 24 countries across the globe participating in this global initiative last year.

Having first announced its environmental vision in 1994, LG has since been practicing environmental management through researching and introducing environmentally friendly products and by reducing the environmental impact that occurs during business activities.

LG will continue to ensure it invests in corporate social responsibility initiatives that support environmental sustainability and create meaningful impact for regional as well as global communities at a time when it is needed most,” concluded Cha.

In 2016, more than 90,000 LG employees from 89 business sites in 48 countries volunteered for social contribution initiatives, and the employees have been actively contributing so socially and environmentally responsible causes along the way.
