UDC sponsors “white book” on CSR in Qatar

United Development Company (UDC), one of the leading Qatari shareholding companies and a firm, socially responsible establishment, has signed a silver sponsorship agreement with Dar Al-Sharq to support the publication of the White Book Qatar 2014, issued annually to shed light on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, activities and programs emanating from companies and social organizations in the State of Qatar.

As a company playing a key role in the country’s development, UDC’s business practices are closely aligned to the wider goals of sustainable economic and social development in Qatar. Therefore, the company employs the highest standards of corporate social responsibility across its entire portfolio. These standards cover the welfare of employees, the environmental consequences of project activities, community services and volunteer work, as well as responsible and transparent corporate governance.

Mr. Turki Al-Khater, UDC’s Chairman and Managing Director stated to that end that the company’s efforts to mainstream CSR across its operations stem from the belief that choices made every day and acting in ways that respect people and protect the environment, serve to sustain the business in the long term.

He further added: “UDC has always played a pioneering role in supporting CSR initiatives and literature in Qatar. This in itself expresses UDC’s character through words and actions. The White Book is one of those vital reference books that will help demonstrate the importance of good citizenship, active community participation, sound environmental policies and good governance in improving transparency, safeguarding stakeholder interests and establishing a socially responsible and effective corporate culture in Qatar.” 

The book will be officially launched in a press conference on December 23rd in the presence of H.E Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser Al-Ali, Qatar's Minister of Youth and Sports, with media, major CSR players and supporters also in attendance and will discuss cases of CSR applications not only from Qatar, but also some selected best practices from around the region and the world.
