Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, welcomed Team Visa athlete Brolin Mawejje to Ski Dubai, where he performed a daring ski stunt to an admiring audience and shared his inspirational pursuit of trying to become the first Ugandan snowboarder to qualify for the Olympic Winter Games.

Brolin’s Ski Dubai stunt marks the start of a month-long campaign by Visa in partnership with Ski Dubai where Visa cardholders who spend AED 350 and above can enter the draw for a chance to win a trip of a lifetime to the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018, which will be held between 9-25 February in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

On his first visit to Dubai, Mawejje dashed through three LED-lit rings at the park in the snow park of Ski Dubai in a continuous sequence before landing perfectly on the Team Visa snowboarding ramp. He also spent time talking about his experiences to Visa’s Dubai team and hosted a masterclass with local aspiring athletes, including Ski Dubai’s sponsored athletes.

Karim Beg, Head of Marketing – MENA, Visa said: “It’s a pleasure to have with us one of the most formidable and inspiring members of Team Visa. Brolin’s career so far is a testament to the philosophy of never giving up, and we wish him all the vest best for his future athletic endeavors. After his awe-inspiring stunt today, I can confidently say that Visa’s Dubai office is certainly Team Brolin.”

Brolin Mawejje added: “It was a pleasure demonstrating snow stunts in sunny Dubai with the Visa team. It’s been my first visit to the city, and I got a real sense of the passion and enthusiasm for sports here, as well its philosophy of achieving the impossible! My childhood taught me that no matter how far a dream may seem, the will to succeed will keep pushing you ahead, and I encourage everyone who has a goal to keep forging ahead, no matter how low the odds may seem.”

After growing up in a village outside Kampala, Uganda with his father and six siblings, Mawejje moved to Lincoln, Massachusetts at the age of twelve to live with his estranged mother, eventually being adopted by a local family. Mawejje is attempting to become the first ever Ugandan Winter Olympian in history while studying to be an orthopedic surgeon. After suffering from a heart attack in early 2017, he has set his sights on competing for his country at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.

In addition to medical school, Mawejje is also studying for his Master’s degree in Public Health. After his athletic career, he plans on becoming a surgeon and returning to Uganda to build hospitals. He also takes pride in inspiring the next generation of African Winter Olympians by showing them that they can achieve anything that they set their minds to.

Since 1986, Visa’s commitment to the Olympic Movement, National Olympic Committees, and individual athletes has been a key factor in ensuring the continuance and success of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. As a proud Worldwide Sponsor of the Olympic Games, Visa will be the exclusive payment services sponsor and the only card accepted at the Olympic Games through 2020.
