HMC Relocates Intravenous Therapy Unit to Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has moved its Intravenous Therapy Unit (IV Therapy Unit) to a new location at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City as part of ongoing plans to transform the medical organization’s clinical services.
The relocation move aims at providing higher levels of comfort and privacy for patients, as well as to meet increasing demands for intravenous services and adapt to the continued population growth of Qatar.
The new IV Therapy Unit includes waiting areas for males and females, and two dedicated IV rooms for male and female patients. Both rooms are equipped with modern IV infusion pumps as well as an oxygen supplier and medical resuscitation equipment.
Each room has a bed and can accommodate seating areas for those who need to spend more than two hours receiving IV therapy. A separate room is also available for the treatment of special cases.
Director of Nursing for Medical Units and IV Therapy at Hamad General Hospital Ms. Madiha Abdulraouf, revealed the IV Therapy Unit currently receives an average of 50 to 60 patients on a daily basis.
“IV therapy is provided to the patients by a team of highly-trained and experienced nurses. The team consists of an in-charge nurse, eight staff nurses and one secretary. They are also trained on first aid and CPR techniques for emergency cases. Our nursing team works in close and constant cooperation with physicians and other medical staff,” Abdulraouf said.
The unit is open from Sunday to Thursday from 7am to 3pm. Additional nurses are available over the weekends to provide the service for the patients who require intravenous infusion services for more than five days.
