Gulf Bank participated in the closing ceremony held by Kuwait Heart Foundation, a tribute to the sponsors and volunteers of its successful campaign titled “Your Heart Your Life”. The ceremony took place on 18 September, 2012, at Kuwait University - Faculty of Medicine, under the patronage of HE Dr. Ali Saad Al Obaidi- Minister of Health , and in the presence of Mr. Faisal Al-Muttawa - the Foundation’s Chairman, Dr. Abdullatif Al-Bader - Kuwait University President, Dr. Adel Al-Khuder  - Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and the participating private sector entities.

The 'Your Heart Your Life', launched on 29 September 2011, in concurrence with World Heart Day, was a smashing success. Among the campaign’s activities, the Foundation carried out full check-ups on blood cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure, and obesity for early detection of heart disease. It broke the Guinness World Record by achieving the highest number of blood pressure readings taken in eight hours: 7,203 BP readings, eclipsing 2010 world record achieved by Bahrain Medical Society of 3,252 BP readings.  Guinness recognition of the campaign, which was received in February 2012, was possible due to the efforts of Medicine students from Kuwait University and volunteers from Kuwait Red Crescent Society.

Mr. Fawzy Al-Thunayan, Gulf Bank’s General Manager- Board Affairs, commented: “Participating in such life saving campaigns, and spreading awareness on all possible levels to minimize the occurrence of disease, is very important to Gulf Bank. It comes in fulfillment of its responsibility towards the Kuwaiti community and in line with its ‘Give Life’ Blood Donation Movement, launched in March 2012, and which will continue in all Gulf Bank branches throughout September."

The significance of holding such campaigns is apparent after recent studies revealed that coronary heart disease was reported as the primary cause of mortality in Kuwait, especially that the Kuwaiti population suffers from alarming rates of overweight, obesity and diabetes which are among the major risk factors of heart disease.
