Emirates GBC celebrates 10 years of green building excellence

Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, celebrated 10 years of serving as an integral partner in achieving the ‘green vision’ of the United Arab Emirates at a recent event hosted for its members at the Sheraton Mall of the Emirates.
Formed with the goal of advancing green building principles that help protect the environment and foster sustainability, EmiratesGBC has closely aligned itself with critical sustainability road maps of the UAE National Agenda 2021, the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy and Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030. With over 150 corporate members, EmiratesGBC has made deep inroads into the construction and retrofitting sectors by offering professional training and workshops.
EmiratesGBC’s co-founders, Habiba Al Marashi and Dr. Sadek Owainati, and Saeed Al Abbar, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, shared their thoughts at the celebration event in the presence of EmiratesGBC members.
Dr Owainati expressed how EmiratesGBC has played an instrumental role in introducing noticeable changes to the UAE’s construction industry and continues to serve as a hub for promoting principles of green buildings. He also shared how EmiratesGBC has had far-reaching impact beyond the UAE in driving Green Building Councils throughout the Middle East.
In 2010, EmiratesGBC led the formation of the MENA Network of Green Building Councils, under the umbrella of WorldGBC. The council has also released three ground-breaking industry reports – ‘EmiratesGBC Technical Guidelines for Retrofitting Buildings’, ‘The EmiratesGBC Energy Efficiency program’ and ‘Energy & Water Benchmarking for UAE Hotels’.
