Emirates Aluminium (EMAL) stepped up its drive to keep employees fighting fit as it conducted its second annual Health Week to raise awareness and ensure the health and well-being of employees, and the community.

Building on last year’s inaugural event, the 2012 Health Week expanded on the issues raised and advice provided.  Taking place over five days starting 23rd September, the on-site EMAL Health Clinic prepared a programme for all employees that included general check-ups, blood donation days, and awareness sessions on important issues such as nutrition and heart disease. All activities were well received and successful, with 743 employees participating in the general medical check-up alone.

Women only sessions were included in every activity, as well as days dedicated to raising awareness of female health topics such as breast cancer and breast feeding. Community specialists included Dr. Miriniza Balatbat, Dietician Specialist and from Al Noor Hospital Ms. Islam Abou Obaid, Registered Midwife, Dr. Halime Khaled Alsaid, Obstetric and Gynecologist specialist.

Saeed Fadhel Al Mazrooei, EMAL’s President and CEO, said: “The EMAL culture of safety first, last, and always applies to the health and well-being of our employees in their lives as much as it does on site. As a responsible employer, Health Week is an important component in our constant efforts to ensure EMAL continues to positively support the people living and working in the Emirates.”

The EMAL Health Clinic provided 743 employees with general medical check-ups throughout the week, including height, weight, BMI, BP, pulse, blood sugar, lipid and CO monitoring. Two full days of the week were devoted for community support, through blood donations to the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank-Donation (SKMC), with 123 EMALvolunteers taking part to help save lives in the Emirates.
