Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) had a stand in the region’s largest water, energy, technology and environment exhibition that was held in the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on April 15 and 16. WETEX takes place annually under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and organized through the efforts of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

For EEG this was not the first time, having closely worked with DEWA over many years. EEG and DEWA have teamed up for many programs and activities, supporting each other’s efforts to create awareness and action around the issue of Environment. EEG has always keenly taken part in exhibitions and conferences, seeing it as an opportunity to reach out to people and organizations. This year EEG has already taken part in 4 exhibitions and 3 national and international conferences so far.

EEG’s stall in WETEX attracted large numbers of visitors and exhibitors, eager to know what the group offers in terms of membership, campaigns and programs. EEG’s colourful and informative flyers, brochures, leaflets, magazines and reports were handed out by members and interns volunteering at the event. Delegates sought information about the eight community recycling programs that EEG runs every year on a continuous basis, which is the only one of its kind in the country that has its roots as far back as the early 1990s.  EEG also spreads knowledge and awareness on the critical issues of water and energy as well as waste. Currently EEG is in partnership with the UNDP Water Governance Programme and Coca Cola in a project called ‘Every Drop Matters’, which was also showcased in the stall.

EEG has a free of cost door to door pick up and delivery service for anyone that is interested to recycle or dispose off in a responsible manner used aluminium beverage cans, plastic bottles, glass bottles and other items, newspaper, other publications and paper products; toner cartridges, batteries, mobile phones and beverage cartons. Participants get recognized for their efforts in an annual ceremony, where the top collectors are also presented with attractive rewards and prizes.

Speaking about EEG’s participation in WETEX Habiba Al Marashi, EEG’s Chairperson said, “ DEWA is a pioneering organization in our country that is investing heavily in not only meeting the increasing demands of a growing population, in this case demand for power and water; but also to create understanding and awareness about the need to conserve these resources. EEG is honored to take part in WETEX once again this year, and we hope to continue our association in the years to come.”
