Dubai World Central’s sustainable development practices to come under spotlight at WETEX 2013

Dubai World Central, DWC, the world’s first purpose-built aerotropolis, is set to showcase its range of environment-friendly practices and commitment to sustainable development, during its participation at WETEX 2013, the 15^th Water Technologies, Energy and Environment Exhibition, which will be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority DEWA. The exhibition will take place from 15 to 17 April at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre DICEC. 

Dubai World Central continues to invest in state-of-the-art technologies and the most advanced methods and strategies to conserve natural resources and protect the environment by minimizing carbon emissions. It pointed out that 100 per cent of the sewage generated within DWC is treated, recycled and used for irrigation, fire fighting systems and district cooling plants. All rainwater is harvested through retention ponds. DWC’s district cooling plants, the central cooling system for all DWC buildings, and the central mechanical rooms are designed to operate at maximum efficiency, requiring minimal maintenance. DWC also conducts a comprehensive carbon audit annually to estimate the carbon footprint of its overall operations.

At WETEX, where we will be taking part under the theme ‘Dubai World Central Works Green’, exhibition visitors will have an opportunity to get a closer look at our ‘green’ practices and the various technologies adopted at DWC to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to environmental protection. The event will also serve as the perfect platform to share best practices and explore the latest techniques in energy conservation and preservation of natural resources.” 

Dubai World Central provides strong evidence of the benefits and practicability of incorporating sustainable development concepts in the project’s master plan. During the initial stages of construction, engineers working on leveling the land collaborated closely with wildlife conservation specialists to ensure that all wildlife species in the project area were accounted for and safely relocated. The successful outcome of DWC’s wildlife preservation initiative is a huge step forward towards setting high standards in flora and fauna preservation in the UAE and around the world.
