Dubai Customs announces security programs policy for Customs inspectors training

Dubai Customs announced the adoption of a security programs policy for training Customs inspectors, aiming at enhancing their security sense and self-defense and leadership skills to be able to protect UAE borders and support legitimate trade. The policy is the first-of-its-kind in local Customs administrations.

The security programs policy, devised by Dubai Customs, will provide unified and reliable procedures to be followed by DC staff when taking part in security programs. The policy will also regulate and coordinate their enrollment in these programs, specifying enrollment conditions.  

Security programs at DC have two categories: A foundational security program for new inspectors and a refresher inspector training course.

The foundational security program involves a security and Customs training. The security training includes key security controls for self-protection, archery, swimming, physical fitness, respecting higher ranks and the art of dealing with the public, whereas the Customs training enhances inspectors’ security sense and improves their response to work developments at DC. Customs training courses include Corporate Culture, Flashes of Thought, Orientation, Inspection Techniques,  Detecting Narcotics and their Smuggling Techniques, Counterfeiting and Forgery Methods, Diplomacy, Body Language, Security Sense, Investigation and English Language Skills.

On the other hand, the refresher inspector training course aims at keeping inspectors up-to-date with the latest developments in inspection. Only inspectors who have enrolled in the foundational security program five years earlier can take part in this course. It involves training in various security and Customs aspects. 

The policy is applicable on all DC inspectors and is connected to the training and development policy at DC.
