Dubai Chamber organises workshop on maritime dispute
Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with Dubai Maritime City Authority and Al Tamimi & Company organised a workshop entitled Vessel Finance & Mortgage and Maritime Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in the UAE, at its head office recently to inform the business community about Dubai’s maritime strategic directions and the legal aspects of vessel finance.
The workshop, which was attended by Dubai Chamber members, shipping executives, finance providers, legal and risk advisors, maritime lawyers, and marine insurance providers, provided insights on the different types of dispute resolution available in the UAE maritime sector.
Moderated by Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services, Dubai Chamber, the workshop had a presentation on Dubai Maritime Strategic Directions by Nawfal Al Jourani, Director of Communications, Dubai Maritime City Authority.
Omar Omar, Partner, Head of UAE Transport & Insurance Department, Al Tamimi & Company and Saif Al Mobideen Associate, Transport & Insurance, Al Tamimi & Company, spoke on Vessel Finance and Mortgage and Dispute Resolution for Shipping in the UAE (Courts & Arbitration).
Kazim informed that Dubai is the third-largest transshipment centre in the world after Hong Kong and Singapore and its ports enjoy distinguished status amongst global and regional ports. Therefore, Vessel Finance & Mortgage is of crucial importance to the maritime industry of the emirate.
She further stressed that the workshop shared best practices in vessel finance and mortgage and the practical steps to secure finance and register mortgages over the different types of vessels. It also highlighted the different maritime dispute resolution mechanisms being practiced in the country.
