Dubai Chamber organises Together for a Better Future campaign for workers
As part of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Sustainability Week celebrations the Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business (CRB) organised a series of high impact events including the "Together for a Better Future", campaign with workers.
The “Together for a Better Future” campaign which leads to having an engaged and happy workforce that will spur productivity and make the work environment a happy place will also contribute actively to the growth of the company as well as the country.
Several members of the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Network participated in this campaign including UAE Exchange, Standard Chartered, Al Futtaim Carillion, Al Ghurair, Consolidated Contractors International Company S.A.L., QBG Facilities Management, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, Empower and Dulsco. The finale event was supported by wasl Asset Management, P&G, Apparel Group and PepsiCo.
Launched on 30th June, this initiative had the No Tobacco campaign which involved one-to-one mentoring to help workers overcome the smoking habit, the financial literacy sessions which included sessions on managing their finances, and the talent show which shortlisted candidates for their singing, dancing, art, and photography capabilities.
The Financial literacy and No Smoking campaigns, which covered around 800 workers, will be continued in the coming months. The campaign’s finale was hosted by QBG at their staff accommodation in Jebel Ali recently where results from the various activities were announced as workers showcased their talents on stage gift hampers from Choithram and goody bags from Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson were presented to the winners and all the attending workers.
Dr. Belaid Rettab, Senior Director, Economic Research and Sustainable Development Sector, Dubai Chamber, said that this campaign reflects on the commitment of the Sustainability Network members whose contribution to the various sustainable initiatives do not only serve the companies and the community, but also goes on to enhance Dubai's reputation of celebrating diversity while creating an inclusive and cohesive society that enriches its business environment.
He added: “The Dubai Chamber Centre for Responsible Business- organised first-of-its-kind “Sustainability Week” under the theme ‘Ma’an معاً– Our World, Our Responsibility’, is marked with a series of events and seminars covering various topics like Innovation Lab for SMEs with waste management activity in malls, Sustainable Energy, Road Safety, and Workplace inclusion for People with Disabilities, the financial literacy for workers, and the Sustainability Fair. All these events look at enhancing organisational performance and productivity for the participating companies in particular and the business community in general.”
The Centre for Responsible Business, which was formed in 2004 and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2014, plays an important role in instilling a culture of responsible business in the UAE. The Centre assists Dubai Chamber members to apply responsible business practices that enhance their performance and competitiveness. It also provides research, training and events related to the concept of corporate social responsibility while raising the profile of Dubai as a sustainable business destination.
