Nine major Dubai-based organisations were presented the Dubai Chamber CSR Label during a ceremony held at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry premises on Wednesday. The awardees were honoured for their efforts in seeking and fostering responsible practices in their business.

The nine organisations included Commercial Bank of Dubai, Standard Chartered Bank, Dubal, Ducab, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, Hilton Jumeirah, Summertown and DLA Piper which have been honoured for their leadership in corporate social responsibility and sustainability while Emirates Transport became the first government entity to receive the Dubai Chamber CSR Label in the country.

Presenting the CSR Label to the receiving organisations, H.E. Hisham Abdullah Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice Chairman, Dubai Chamber, congratulated the awardees stating that the CSR Label gives companies a clear framework to help them implement CSR and sustainability initiatives, promote them amongst clients and staff, and then have their efforts recognised publicly.

Al Shirawi said that the CSR Label provides an opportunity for the participating companies to identify best responsible practices and to discover their strengths and weaknesses while dealing with the effects of their commercial activities on the business environment and the society. It also helps them apply responsible business practices in their company’s internal operations including performance appraisal and overall development of the organisation.

He added that the Dubai Chamber CSR Label allows organisations to learn, assess, monitor and improve individual CSR strategies and practices as they get access to toolkits, networking seminars and training workshops to help them adopt and implement their own CSR schemes.

The 2nd Vice Chairman of Dubai Chamber pointed out that the CSR Label, which is the first of its kind programme in the Middle East, has generated a lot of interest across a cross-section of organisations irrespective of their type or size and helped them to adopt international best practices with regard to CSR and sustainability.

The awardees lauded the role of Dubai Chamber in allowing them a toolkit to access their corporate social responsibility performance as well as the opportunity to promote their activities, and to enhance their reputation as leaders in achieving sustainability.

Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business launched the CSR Label in 2010 and has had an overwhelming response from the business community. The Centre offers a variety of educational, professional training and consulting services that are designed to increase a company’s capacity to implement broad CSR programmes including business ethics, sustainability reporting and corporate governance into their day-to-day working environment.
