Dubai Chamber honours 10 companies for implementing responsible business practices
During its first CSR Label awarding ceremony of the year, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry honoured 10 major organisations for their efforts to become leading businesses in corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
Out of the 10 honourees, including 6 Construct, Al Rostamani Pegel, Chalhoub Group, Emicool, Nstyle International, Alpen Capital, Axiom Telecom, Bank Sarasin-Alpen, du and TNT the later five received the honour for a second time in a row.
Presenting the CSR Label to the receiving organisations, H.E. Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, congratulated the honourees stating that the Dubai Chamber CSR Label allows businesses to set a clear and measurable standard for their organisations as well as help spread awareness of the importance of CSR goals and objectives across Dubai’s business community.
He called upon the recipients of the Dubai Chamber CSR Label to take the message of the importance of CSR back to their business partners and encourage them to take the steps towards becoming more responsible and sustainable businesses. You are CSR pioneers in the region and are helping to promote best business practices by leading by example, he said.
H.E. Buamim informed that last year alone the Dubai Chamber CSR Label honoured 29 companies as the applicant numbers rose considerably since the launch of the initiative by the Chamber three years ago. Over the years, the CSR Label has guided companies to set a clear and measurable standard for sustainable business practices.
He added that the CSR Label is open to every type of organisation regardless of its size or sector and can make a major difference to a company’s reputation, efficiency and productivity. The success of the concept is dependent on how clearly the business sets out its CSR objectives and how well it communicates these to its staff and all stakeholders, said H.E. Buamim.
The Director General of Dubai Chamber pointed out that through its Centre for Responsible Business the Chamber has been providing easy access to toolkits, networking seminars and training workshops to help companies adopt and implement their own CSR schemes. This first of its kind initiative in the Middle East region has been instrumental in encouraging organisation to incorporate CSR into their daily operations.
The honourees lauded the role of Dubai Chamber in allowing them a toolkit to access their corporate social responsibility performance as well as the opportunity to promote their activities, and to enhance their reputation as leaders in achieving sustainability.
Dubai Chamber’s Centre for Responsible Business launched the CSR Label in 2010 and has had an overwhelming response from the business community. The Centre offers a variety of educational, professional training and consulting services that are designed to increase a company’s capacity to implement broad CSR programmes including business ethics, sustainability reporting and corporate governance into their day-to-day working environment.
