Dubai Chamber Director General elected Deputy Chairman of World Chambers Federation
With the rise of Dubai as an international trading hub and in recognition of the leading role played by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in supporting global trade, H.E. Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, has been elected Deputy Chairman of the World Chambers Federation (WCF), the International Chamber of Commerce's arm responsible for chambers of commerce affairs.
The three-year mandate, effective January 2013, makes H.E. Buamim eligible to be elected for the position of Chairman after the completion of one or two terms as Deputy Chairman. Previously, he served as one of the five Vice Chairs of WCF responsible for the Middle East region and concluded his term at the end of last year.
Accrediting his appointment to the strategic role played by Dubai Chamber in facilitating global trade, an elated H.E. Buamim stated that the honour is not only a recognition for the Chamber but to Dubai due to the emirate’s growing profile on the international business arena as a reputed center of global trade and finance.
He said that the selection also reinforces the confidence of the international business community in the sound investment environment of Dubai as it also reflects on the foresight and vision of our leaders headed by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.
H.E. Buamim further stressed that Dubai Chamber has always kept step with global economic changes and has never rested on its laurels. The region’s leading business facilitator has time and again launched new services and initiatives for the benefit of its over 140,000 members who carry out their trading activities in 210 business destinations around the world, he said.
He also added that Dubai Chamber, on its part, has included new chambers, organisations and economic bodies to its network of global associates and makes its presence felt through representative offices set up in promising markets around the world.
In his new position as Deputy Chair of WCF, H.E. Buamim will work to strengthen the global network of chambers and to reinforce the role chambers play in their respective communities while voicing their concerns with the top management of the international body.
He will also be playing an important role in policy development for WCF which will, in a way, empower global chambers of commerce with modern trading tools and help them to improve their performance in line with the best international practices.
Said Peter Mihok, WCF Chairman, “Mr. Buamin consistently demonstrated a commitment to advancing WCF objectives in his former role as a WCF Vice-Chair. This experience and background make him a perfect fit for the Deputy Chair leadership position and I very much look forward to working with him in this role.”
The World Chambers Federation represents the chambers of commerce affairs in the International Chamber of Commerce, and is a platform for the meeting of experts and representatives of over 12,000 chambers of commerce around the world where Dubai Chamber will get a chance to raise issues that affect world trade.
Founded in 1950, the WCF strengthens the ties between chambers of commerce, besides helping them to develop and provide better global standard products and services to their clients and members. The august body also helps in opening up channels of cooperation and offers advice and counsel in the areas of administration, operations and finance for the chambers of commerce to explore investment opportunities and new markets for their members.
