Doha Bank, the leading private commercial bank in Qatar, hosted the 2013 edition of the highly anticipated Al Dana Green Run recently. The run was held at Aspire Zone and covered a three kilometers circuit around Khalifa Stadium.

This year’s Al Dana Green Run drew hundreds of participants in various race categories, in addition to hundreds of spectators. In total, the organizers registered over 1000 runners. Al Dana savings certificates were given to the top five finishers in each category covering under-18 (boys and girls), and above 18 (men and women), professional athletes (men and women), Doha Bank employees, and special needs participants.

Dr. R. Seetharaman, Group CEO, Doha Bank, who ran the course himself, along with many other staff members, said: “Firstly, I would like to thank the Qatar Athletics Federation for its support by dedicating judges to officiate the races and provide officially recognized race results. The overall feedback from all quarters for this year’s Al Dana Green Run was extremely positive and we hope to make the next Green Run an even bigger attraction for everyone in the country.”

Doha Bank hosts Al Dana Green Runs every year to encourage people in Qatar to participate and build awareness of environmental protection in Qatar. Doha Bank, a leading advocate of environmental protection in Qatar, has been hosting Green Runs for many years. This is the ninth Green Run hosted by the Bank.

Dr. Seetharaman said: “With a growing population and remarkable economic growth, resource utilization is a responsibility shared by people across the spectrum of life. We firmly believe that our objectives as corporate and individual representatives of the community should include the commitment to reduce our overall carbon footprint and contribute to sustainable development. For this reason, we are using the Green Run this year to encourage people to save resources, just as they save in their Al Dana accounts. ”

The 2013 Al Dana Green Run was scheduled at a time when the weather in Doha was very pleasant and it was a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family. A range of entertainment options was available for the whole family adjacent to Khalifa Stadium, including a dedicated kids play area, with registration and badge collection counters for race participants as well as associated medical check-up facilities opening by 12 noon, giving all participants the opportunity to register and prepare in time for the races which started at 3pm.
