The Department of Municipal Affairs issues a decree allows the amendment and expansion of homes

The Department of Municipal Affairs in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (DMA) issued a decree allows the owners of plot of lands which has been built on more than one unit, to amend, expand, rebuild any of the units or the attachments of these units.

In order to benefit of this decree, there are certain criteria and rules have to be met. Among of these are, that the units and their attachments were constructed according to a building permit issued by the local municipality prior to the decree no (108) issued in 2010 related to the regulation of the residential building and construction sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to this, the purpose of the amendment has to be for improving the living environment for the inhabitants, and that any amendment has to be supported by an alteration permit from the municipality based on current planning rules and regulations in the building and construction sector.

This decree is designed to give more choice to the residents to amend their home according to their requirements, wishes and needs, and will enhance their standard of living and their social and economic stability.
