Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities Endorses Abu Dhabi Corniche Master Development Plan

The Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities (DUPM) has endorsed the Master Development Plan of Abu Dhabi Corniche aimed at enhancing the tourist attractions of the Cornish rendering it a superb recreational facility befitting the profile of Abu Dhabi. Upgrading the Corniche will also offer visitors a unique opportunity to practice a variety of recreational and sports activities in a venue boasting world-class standards.

Renovating Abu Dhabi Corniche reflects the commitment of the Department to address the concerns of the Government for enhancing the infrastructure needed to ensure premium living while maintaining the values of sustainability. It is the intention of the Department to proceed ahead with the infrastructural improvements to keep pace with cosmopolitan cities in terms of public facilities/services and the standard of living. The project also reflects a commitment to maintaining the quality of the seafront and striking a balance between urban development and the environment.

The project will be carried out over several phases starting from the Lagoon Beach and the parallel walk during the initial stage as part of the new Master Plan of Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities had tasked Miral Asset Management LLC to undertake the project as the main contractor as part of its vision aimed to boost the cooperation between the public and private sectors. This step depicts the keenness of the Department to open a window for this important sector to contribute to boosting the infrastructure and deliver sustainable development projects in Abu Dhabi and the neighbourhood. The ultimate objective of these endeavours is to improve the standard of living and welfare of residents and offer modern services that live up to the needs and expectations of the community members.

The Department expects to complete Phase I of the project in March 2018. Phase I spans an area of 78 thousand square meters comprising a host of recreational, service and commercial facilities. They include a water park with lots of activities & aqua sports, outdoor cinema, theatre, outdoor sports hall, open adventures and playgrounds, kiosks & restaurants, and retail outlets selling F&B, beach dress and swimming kits.

Development works entail numerous services such as Henna design, lockers, boats and bike rental, Segway scooters, tourist kiosks, tours, and sports outlets selling sports accessories like ski boards and food supplements.

The Abu Dhabi City Municipality confirms that the rest of the Corniche areas will not be affected by the improvement project and will remain open to welcome visitors on the same timing, i.e. from 07 am to 12 am.
