In celebration of Mother’s Day, Damas has announced the winners of a children’s jewellery design contest that was organised in association with KidZania, the award-winning edutainment centre located at The Dubai Mall.

Children visiting the Damas store in KidZania® from 1 – 15 March were invited to sketch designs of jewellery pieces and enter the contest for a chance to turn their inspiration into reality. The contest was divided into two age categories with 15 designs from each category shortlisted by a panel of judges from the Damas design team. In the final round, a winner from each category was selected for the Mother’s Day gesture from Damas.

10-year old Lamees Amir, winner of the first group for children between 4 –10 years, designed a creative yellow gold set resembling a flower. Lamees said: “For the necklace, I chose flowers with five petals as a symbol of my family members where my mother is placed at the centre of the flower.” Lamees’s mother, who attended the prize award ceremony, said: “It is a great joy to see children celebrating their mothers in such a creative and loving way.”

12-year old Tharshini Umapathy, winner of the second group for11 -15 year olds, designed a gold set with rubies and diamonds. Tharshini’s mother said: “This competition has filled mothers like me with pride and I will treasure Tharshini’s creation as a reminder of this day.”

Damas has translated the designs of the two winners into real gold with diamonds and precious stones. The sets were awarded to the children’s mothers at a prize giving ceremony hosted at KidZania on 20 March to coincide with Mother’s Day.

Rula Zaidan, General Manager Marketing at Damas, said: “It was a pleasure to be able to host an event that offered an opportunity to these incredibly talented children to express their love on this Mother’s Day through Damas’ timeless jewellery. It was fantastic to watch the joy on the mothers’ faces as they received the unique gifts designed by their children.”

Parag Udeshi, Mayor, KidZania Dubai, said: “KidZania encourages children to be creative and discover their artistic potential through professional role-plays at the different establishments, such as Damas, within the mini-city. The jewellery design activity was warmly welcomed by the little ones. Inspired by the love for their mothers, they created beautifully designed jewellery pieces to mark Mothers’ Day. We will continue to offer our young visitors such opportunities where fun and self-development meet in a safe environment.”

KidZania has been introduced to the Middle East region through an exclusive partnership with Emaar Retail LLC. Damas formed a partnership with Kidzania in January 2012 as the sponsor of the jewellery shop at the venue, which is one of the most popular performing establishments in KidZania. To date, the store has catered to over 40,000 children who have ‘worked’ as jewellers.
