Business in Dubai wins Golden Shield of Excellence for best App in the Arab world

The ‘Business in Dubai’ App of the Dubai Department of Economic Development received the Golden Shield of Excellence for the best smart application in the Arab world at the Pan Arab Excellence Awards Academy event held in Kuwait city on the 27^th of April 2016. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mohamed Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Central Agency for Information Technology in Kuwait.

Mohamed Khalifa Ali Al Qaizi Al Falasi, Senior manager of Development & Applications Section, who received the award on behalf of DED, said the award is a fitting recognition for the efforts of DED’s IT Department in making the App a valuable smart tool for trade license owners and the larger business community in Dubai.

"The team developed the application across multiple stages since 2013, integrating state-of-the-art technology and keeping it user-friendly.  By enabling users of the system to enter and access information under a single ‘identity’ DED became one of the first government entities to go smart in line with the Smart Government strategy of  Dubai,” added Al Falasi.

Hanadi Mohammed Eid, Director of the IT Department in DED, said: "The ‘Business in Dubai’ App is one of the most important applications supporting the strategic direction of the Department of Economic Development. It also supports our customers as well as the Smart City concept of Dubai. ‘Business in Dubai’ has had more than 40,000 users so far, and the number of transactions has exceeded 1,000,000, which includes enquiries, E-services, and payments among others.”
