Burgan Bank announced its participation in the annual United Nations (UN) campaign, Orange the World, which spans two weeks in support of the United Nation’s (UN) comprehensive initiative for ending violence against women and girls. Similar to other state-owned buildings in Kuwait, the Bank will light its headquarters up in orange, in adherence and commitment to its social responsibility strategy. The Bank aims, among other goals, to empower women, end all forms of violence against them, and create an overarching positive change within Kuwait’s society. This also comes in support of the government’s efforts to achieve the fifth goal of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as part of the national development plan and the vision of a New Kuwait 2035.

Moreover, as part of the year-long strategic collaboration between the two parties, Burgan Bank will be supporting Al Ahmadi Governate in their own participation in the campaign, where the Governate’s office will also be lit up in orange.

Orange the World comes as part of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declaration to abolish violence against women and girls, announced to raise awareness on one of the most widely spread forms of human rights violations which comprises multiple forms of physical and psychological aggression that women around the world are susceptible to and victims of. This initiative also aims at aiding nations worldwide in their pursuit of achieving women-related SDGs which entail her empowerment and reinforcement of her rights and place in society, in addition to raising awareness on her vital role in the development process.

Commenting on the Bank’s participation in this campaign, Mrs. Kholoud Al-Feeli, Group Head – Corporate Communications at the Bank, said: “Burgan Bank has long since been a supporter of women’s rights, and among the first Kuwaiti institutions to sign on for the UN’s Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP), calling for everyone to stand up against and curbing all forms of violence and discrimination against women. Our participation in this campaign is a testament to our strategic commitment to social responsibility and the reinforcement of societal welfare, in addition to the empowerment of women as an essential partner in the advancement of society.”
