Bringing Shari’a-compliant banking to the next generation, a group of 25 students from the National University of Singapore visited Bank Nizwa’s head office to gain insight into Oman’s Islamic finance sector and the bank’s pioneering role in growing it since its inception. The delegation was welcomed by Bank Nizwa’s Acting CEO Khaled Al Kayed before participating in a highly interactive presentation on the principles and development of Islamic finance conducted by the Bank’s Head of Shari’a Structuring, Mohammed Sajari.

The students, who were all business and political science undergraduates, were visiting Oman as part of a tour of the region. Their time with Bank Nizwa included a trip to its Qurum branch, where they saw Islamic finance in practice. Bank Nizwa was the only financial institution they visited during their stay, highlighting the Bank’s growing profile as the Sultanate’s leading full-fledged Islamic finance provider.

Khaled Al Kayed, Acting CEO of Bank Nizwa, said, “As Oman’s ambassadors of Islamic finance, we are committed to spreading knowledge of the sector and highlighting its numerous benefits to as many people as possible. These initiatives are a great opportunity to share our expertise and journey with people from all over the world, raising awareness on Islamic finance and providing the next generation with a window into its principles and practices.”

Since opening its doors three years ago, Bank Nizwa has been committed to spreading awareness of Islamic finance through dialogue, seminars and roadshows. The bank has launched the ‘Islamic Finance Knowledge Series’ to educate local communities across the Sultanate on the benefits of Islamic banking and this visit is a continuation to its strategy to grow the industry and understanding of its core principles to audiences in Oman, the region and internationally. Bank Nizwa has also hosted various international delegations including the University of Washington, Dauphin University, and the Right Honorable Alderman Alan Yarrow, Lord Mayor of London, to name but a few.
