Australian Artist Augustus Firestone to Exhibit “Elephant Rock” in Dubai
Australian artist Augustus Firestone will present his acclaimed artwork “Elephant Rock” at Andakulova Gallery in Dubai, as part of a group exhibition running 21 – 27 November 2025. The event marks Firestone’s first exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, introducing his distinctive art form — the Painted Sculpture Relief — to audiences in the Gulf.
Firestone’s Elephant Rock reimagines one of Saudi Arabia’s most iconic landscapes — AlUla’s monumental sandstone formation — through a hybrid technique merging painting and sculptural relief. The work explores how light and shadow animate the surface of the rock and the shadow on the landscape, echoing Claude Monet’s Haystack series, where a single subject transforms through changing atmosphere and time.
“I wanted to capture the rhythm of desert light and the shifting memory of place,” Firestone explains. “In Elephant Rock, the painted surface and sculptural form work together to evoke the poetry and energy of the landscape.”
Known for his innovative approach, Firestone’s practice expands the dialogue between painting and sculpture. His Painted Sculpture Reliefs invite viewers to experience depth, texture, and reflection as interconnected elements — a contemporary evolution of classical craftsmanship.
The Andakulova Gallery, located in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), continues its mission of fostering cross-cultural exchange between East and West. The exhibition will feature Firestone alongside selected international artists who share a commitment to artistic experimentation and material excellence.
