Al Bustan Centre and Residence conducts Breast Cancer Awareness Program
Al Bustan Centre and Residence, the popular hotel-apartment among tourists and businessmen in the heart of Dubai, recently conducted a breast cancer awareness program as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
In partnership with Zulekha Hospital, the main speaker, Dr. Pranay Taori MD (Medicine), DM (Medical Oncology), Specialist Medical Oncologist, discussed the most common cancer in women and educated them on its symptoms and prevention; necessary takes on avoiding the acquisition of the disease would be a healthy lifestyle, control of weight and obesity as well as avoiding alcohol.
The participants were informed that women who reached 40 years must undergo mammography in order to detect any signs of breast cancer. Dr. Taori also advised women with history of the illness in the family to undergo screening as early as the age of 30 and all women between the ages 20-30 should go a clinical breast examination by a gynecologist once every three years.
Moussa El Hayek, Chief Operating Officer, Al Bustan Centre and Residence said: “Breast cancer is an illness that is increasing every year, According to World Health Organization, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women hence, education about the disease and knowledge on its prevention has to be taken seriously. We, at Al Bustan Centre & Residence, take our part in spreading awareness especially to the benefit of our employees”.
One of the major concerns and issues discussed were women who are more prone to having the disease are those who are using contraceptives, who are not married and do not have children, and women who do not breast feed their babies. In today’s world filled with fast pace life and sedentary lifestyle, it make us forget to lead a healthy life, therefore changes are necessary if we want to live a life without any diseases.
Dr. Taori concluded by giving a take home message that women should act on immediately when given signs of the disease. Also, it is very important to know that early detection is the key in survival before it developed into a cancerous tumor.
