The Egyptian minister of industry and technological development, Mustapha Al-Refai, has stated that the Egyptian powdered dairy products imports doubled over a period of three years, growing from 23,000 tons in 1996 to 46,000 last year.
This statement, reported in Al-Gomhouriya newspaper, comes at a time when this sector is being debated by local authorities, including the ministers of agriculture, economy, as well as Al-Refai himself.
According to the report, the powdered dairy products sector has been facing many problems, largely caused by dumping practices in the country. These local officials have been discussing this problem lately, in an effort to reach a possible solution by the second half of September.
The ministry of industry and technological development recommended the restricting and regulating of these products’ imports as one potential solution.
