Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said Wednesday that the consumer price index for the base year (1996=100) reached 141.00 in June 2004, recording a 0.10% decreases compared with May 2004.
In a press release, PCBS revealed that, through the analysis of the price changes of commodities, it is apparent that prices of major groups of expenditure have declined. “Food has declined by 1.25%, while Recreational, Cultural goods and services by 1.38%”, according to the press release.
It also said that prices of other major groups of expenditure have increased. The press release added “Miscellaneous goods and services by 1.31%, transport and communications by 1.00% and medical care by 0.94%”.
Prices of housing has increased by 0.46%, textiles, clothing and footwear by 0.34%, furniture, household goods and services by 0.34%, beverages and tobacco by 0.13% and education by 0.07%, the press release mentioned.
PCBS concluded “Analyzing the price movements of different regions in the Palestinian Territory, it is apparent that the Prices of Remaining West Bank have decreased by 0.63%, prices of Jerusalem decreased by 0.21%, while the prices in Gaza Strip increased by 0.43%.” (menareport.com)
