Most Cypriot transport stats climb in 1999

Figures released recently by the Cypriot Statistics Service relating to that country’s transport sector, indicated substantial growth in the transport, storage and communication sectors during 1999. 

 

During 1999, 4,858 vessels berthed at the various Cypriot ports, compared to 4,476 in 1998. Of these 3,879—or 79.8 percent—arrived at the port in Limassol, 778—or 16 percent—came to Larnaca port, and 201 ships arrived at other ports.  

 

Civilian aircraft landings rose to 24,860 in 1999, from 23,590 in 1998. Airport traffic expanded, with arrivals climbing from 2.55 million in 1998 to 2.78 million in 1999. 

 

Newly registered vehicles, however, decreased by 12.4 percent, from 38,798 in 1998 to 33,973 in 1999. The number of vehicles on the register of the Department of Road Transport stood at 500,906 by the end of 1999. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
