Despite the Lebanese treasury’s effort not to disclose figures related to the unprecedented collapse in the country’s customs revenues this past July, shocking figures were recently made public by the Customs Automatic Center. These figures, reported in Al-Mustaqbal daily, showed that the total revenues from the Lebanese customs fallen to LL 155 billion in July 2000, down from LL 195 billion in July 1999, representing a 20 percent decline.

The country’s total customs revenues for the first seven months of this year amounted to LL 1,097 billion, a 9.3 percent decrease from the corresponding period of last year, which was valued at LL 1,210 billion. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
