Jordan's MobileCom has recently signed an agreement with Ericsson to launch the latest worldwide-development in mobile broadband technology to its current GPRS customers, which is called EDGE: Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution.

EDGE is one step into 3G: It enhances the speed and performance of wireless data connectivity and data transmission up-to 240 kilobits per second, improving the customer's usage experience in browsing the Internet, receiving and sending data with up to 5 times the speed of the current GPRS services.

In addition, EDGE allows corporate and individual customers to smoothly download large files of multimedia and rich content such as music and video clips, MP3s, live TV broadcasting, listen to internet-radio stations, Internet browsing, e-mail and remote access, presentations, projects, and the like.

Several terminals are already available in the market and many more will be launched in the coming months.

Mr. Mickael Ghossein, MobileCom Chief Executive Officer stated in this regard: "By launching this technology, we are providing a new value to MobileCom's current services. With EDGE, we can add extra capacity to data communications, allowing our subscribers to continually enjoy the best network quality currently available in Jordan by belonging to one of the most advanced mobile service providers in the region. This is just one of the many new services we have in store for our subscribers. We are constantly on the move to bring the best to our market.”

Mr. Antoine Nehme, Ericsson Jordan Country Manager commented: “We are very proud of the MobileCom launch of EDGE in the network. We believe the market will welcome it. Jordanians have proven to be in many respects at the forefront of trying new telecom services. EDGE will enable and unleash a great potential of new mobile data applications. Ericsson remain committed to supporting Operators in providing valuable and competitive services to their customers.”

MobileCom customers will also benefit from the enhanced data transmission speed, which rivals that of the fixed internet transmission, and by saving on time from the standard GPRS service, adding more value to their current GPRS bundles. (menareport.com)
