Jordanian olive oil production is expected to drop by 45 percent this season. The Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture estimates this year's output to amount to 15 thousand tons, compared with 27 thousand tons in the previous year, reported Al-Rai.
In order to remedy the problem, Jordanian sources have affirmed that olive squeezers have increased in both number and quality making their total production capacity reach 8 tons per hour.
There are 300 thousand Jordanian families whose livelihood depends on olive oil production. Many workers also rely on seasonal jobs related to either olive planting or the production of related goods such as soap and charcoal. — (Mena Report)
