Vice president of software giant Microsoft, Jonathan Murray, met the Jordanian deputy prime minister and minister of state for economic affairs, Mohammad Halaiqa, on Thursday. The two discussed finalizing an agreement for employing Microsoft systems in public sector offices and introducing e-governance to the Kingdom.
The talks also focused on Microsoft's investment projects in Jordan and the training of Jordanian personnel to implement the e-government project.
Halaiqa elaborated on the government's plans to gear up the administrative infrastructure in order to successfully mount the challenges of globalization, saying that one of the key strategies is the adoption of e-governance, as called for by King Abdullah.
The minister further emphasized the government's dedication to implementing this project, which should enable Jordan to advance in delivering higher quality public services and information access, and expressed hope that Microsoft would take up considerable investment projects in the country to facilitate the initiative.
In the meeting, attended by minister of telecommunications and post, Fawwaz Zo'bi, and head of the Information unit of the prime ministry, Issa Etoum, Halaiqa briefed Murray on the private sector's role in the IT field.
Murray said Microsoft executives are interested to invest in Jordan for setting up e-governance, as they see its potential to become a model for the system. He said his company is considering expanding its operations in Jordan. ― ( Jordan Times )
