Iranian President's Advisor and Secretary of Supreme Council for Information Dissemination Nasrollah Jahangard said Wednesday, "Various types of electronic services, particularly electronic money, will be offered in Iran in some six months from now."
On the sidelines of multimedia festival, Jahangard voiced hope that electronic money (credit cards) would be introduced in Iran even sooner than the other types of electronic services.
The President's Advisor added, according to IRNA, "Electronic money is the complementary ring in government sponsored Information Technology (IT) at virtual sphere, whose main user would be the country's private sector."
Pointing out that comprehensive studies have been done and effective moves have been launched aimed at activating credit cards in Iran, he said, "We have already provided various types of standard credit cards, machines that can read them, and ATM devices for the purpose."
He added, "It is in such favorable conditions that the credit cards can be presented and the people can make their payments through the web."
The secretary of the supreme council for information dissemination predicted that the volume of money to be transferred through the electronic web during the current year in Iran would be around 15,000 billion rials (1.6 billion dollars).
He said that from that amount some one quarter would be allocated to the provision of the required software material, of which roughly 80% is manufactured domestically.
