Share prices on the Frankfurt stock exchange plunged into negative territory on Thursday afternoon as a result of nervousness about increased tension in the Middle East, the sharp rise in oil prices and the decline on Wall Street, traders said.
By late afternoon, the DAX blue-chip index was showing a loss of 1.53 percent on the day at 6,465.19 points
The NEMAX 50 index of the Neuer Markt of high-growth stocks was down 2.23 percent at 4,259.54 points.
"Today's events (in the Middle East) are definitely a source of concern for the markets," one trader said.
Israel on Wednesday renewed attacks in the Palestinian territories and in Aden, an inflatable raft rammed a US destroyer, triggering an explosion which killed at least four sailors. – (AFP)
