Members states of the Gulf Cooperation Council are planning to establish a company which will oversee the setting up of a joint electricity grid, reported Gulf News
A common electricity grid for the GCC countries has been on the drawing board for some time, and is a regular subject for discussion at the annual summits which brings together the various GCC heads of state.
The states are also considering a common gas grid, which will supply natural gas to for industrial and domesticuse in the member countries.
The project is being piloted by the GCC secretariat general in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which recently asked Doha-based Gulf Organisation for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) to prepare a blueprint of the electricty project.
