Brovig ASA placed a major contract with Malta Drydocks for conversion of the tanker Northia into a FPSO for installation on the Isis field offshore Tunisia.
The contract includes hull modifications, installation and hookup of topside process equipment, installation of a helideck and safety and accommodation upgrades. The tanker will be renamed Ikdam.
Completion is anticipated in late spring 2001. The FPSO will be under a four-year contract with Coparex Netherlands B.V., licenseholder of the Isis field.
Ikdam will be Brovig's third owned FPSO, joining its advanced sister vessels, the custom-built Crystal Ocean and Crystal Sea.
Other contractors on the FPSO conversion include Kvaerner Group, subsea control equipment; Expro Group, topsides processing equipment; Smit Marine Contractors, subsea installation; and tripod catenary mooring and offloading systems, Vicinay.
The Isis project is the second major field development contract awarded to Brovig since its formation following the acquisition of technical oilfield consultants, RDS Resource, by Brovig ASA in January 2000.
