The number of employees in the food manufacturing sector in the Arabian Gulf states has grown from 39,000 in 1990 to 79,000 by the end of 1999, reported in Al-Bayan on August 11. This constitutes a 103 percent rise.
The total investments in the food industries in these countries have grown as well, reaching $6.4 billion by the end of 1999, up from $2.85 billion in the end of 1990.
According to the report, during the 1990s the number of food manufacturing factories in the Gulf states increased from 664 to 1,073. – (Albawaba-MEBG)
