Egyptian textile exports reach EP 1.61 billion in first half of 2000 

The value of Egyptian cotton and industrial textile product exports increased by 26 percent between the first halves of 1999 and 2000. The total export value of this sector reached EP 1.61 billion in 2000, compared to 1.28 billion in the first half of last year. 

 

Figures appearing in Al-Gomhouria newspaper revealed that the local industrial fibers exports doubled in the first half of 2000, reaching 9,717 tons, compared to 4,985 tons in the corresponding period of the previous year. These exports are valued at EP 189 million, up from EP 119 million in the first half of 1999. 

 

Additional figures released showed that the value of Egyptian spun cotton exports expanded to EP 283 million in the first half of 2000, up from EP 261 million in the corresponding period of the previous year, representing an eight percent increase.  

 

The main importers of the Egyptian spun cotton are Europe (14 percent), the USA (14 percent) and Asia. –(Albawaba-MEBG)
