Local media site Ahram Online reports that she was found murdered at home on Tuesday 22 November, having suffered multiple stab wounds.
Nevine Loutfy, who was 64, had joined ADIB Egypt in 2008, leading the bank’s move to become a fully Shari’ah compliant institution; in fact she was the first Arab woman to lead an Islamic bank.
With more than three decades of banking experience, Loutfy had worked across the corporate, SME and retail sectors, with extensive international experience gained in the US, Europe and emerging markets, with primary areas of expertise being local corporate and SME business management, in addition to credit risk and capital management.
Loutfy came to ADIB Egypt from Citigroup’s EMEA Commercial Bank in London where she held the position of Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director and Business Senior Credit Officer. She had begun her banking career with Citibank in March 1976 where she joined the Cairo office as a Financial Analyst. Loutfy held a BA Economics from the American University in Cairo.
Nevine Loutfy had been featured regularly in the pages of CPI Financial's magazines Banker Middle East, Banker Africa (featuring on the cover in 2014) and Islamic Business & Finance. CPI Financial offers its condolences to her family.
