“Dubai eGovernment has reached the fourth stage in the project lifecycle of eGovernance, according to the United Nations international classification, and is pushing assertively towards the final stage that will place it in the league of only a few countries in the world to offer fully integrated services through a single portal,” said Director eServices, Dubai eGovernment Salem Al-Shair.

Addressing a seminar on 'eGovernment - Challenges and Opportunities' organized by Dubai University College (DUC) in Dubai recently, Al-Shair said, “Dubai eGovernment had reached the transactional stage of the project and was pushing towards the seamless integration stage which signifies total amalgamation between all government departments through the single portal.”

“Around 79 per cent of eGovernment portals globally are still in the emerging and enhanced stages, while 19 per cent are placed in the advanced interactive and transactional categories,” said Al-Shair. “This is a significant achievement for Dubai eGovernment considering that it went online with just 14 services in October 2001 and today there are close to 600 online services available, compared with several other developed countries which had a head-start and are still lagging behind.”

Dubai eGovernment is a pioneering initiative in the region to provide online services across the spectrum of corporate and community life in the emirate. It also has a vision to integrate individually automated government departments under the single umbrella of the eGovernment initiative, thus empowering employees across lines of businesses and levels of government, besides facilitating the lives of citizens and customers of the government. — (menareport.com)
