ALBAWABA - A Chinese passenger drone has completed its first Middle East test flight from Doha port to Katara Cultural Village in Qatar.

According to Xinhua news agency, Chinese drone companies are accelerating their plans in the Middle East, taking advantage of the great potential offered by the region's "low altitude" economy, which includes civil aviation at short altitudes for the movement of people and goods.

The test flight was conducted using an EH216-S aircraft, developed by EHang, a leading Chinese manufacturer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (EVL) aircraft.

The passenger drone left Doha Port and flew a pre-planned route to Katara Cultural Village in just 8 minutes, compared to a road journey of approximately 30 minutes.

Qatari Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, affirmed that this journey represents a “milestone” in Qatar’s journey towards adopting smart and sustainable transport solutions, and constitutes an advanced step towards a future based on environmentally friendly technology.
