Tafawoq, the Dubai Department of Economic Development’s (DED) internal project for continuous development and improvement, has won the Dubai Government Excellence Award for the Distinguished Management Initiative in 2002.
This year’s honor makes it the third time that the DED has been presented with the award for the Distinguished Management Initiative. The department has received the accolade earlier for the Dubai Quality Award initiative and for its Intlaq project.
“The Tafawoq initiative aims to find an appropriate mechanism to bridge the gap between the concepts and practice of quality management by actualizing the various planned strategies within the department. This in turn will enhance the communication between the management and the employees at the DED,” said Mohamed Ali Alabbar, the Director General of the DED.
Tafawoq is part of the ongoing program of continuous development and improvement initiated by the DED and is supervised by the Performance Improvement Office (PIO) at the department, which reports directly to the Director General. All the projects suggested under this initiative are related to the strategic plan of the DED and every employee is responsible for the success of this initiative.
The Tafawoq project has reiterated employees’ commitment to total quality management by launching continuous improvement schemes, identifying crucial areas for development and introducing the idea of self-assessment for all sections within the department.
The criteria laid down by the Dubai Government Excellence Programme have been used as a benchmark for performance and quality by the Tafawoq project, thereby internalizing the standards. The PIO has initiated 35 development projects and initiatives to ensure the implementation of quality management standards within the department.
The project reviews internal and external customer feedback received via questionnaires, direct interfaces and surveys in order to identify areas of future growth and development. Reports by the Dubai Government Excellence Program assessors are also reviewed and analyzed by the PIO. In addition, the project offers support and information to employees. — (menareport.com)
