ALBAWABA - Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport will be reopened tonight with limited operations amid the war with Iran, Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev announced.
The flights are expected to be operated only by Israeli carriers, and the partial reopening of the airport is to bring back Israelis stranded abroad, the minister said on Tuesday.
In the first stage, the flights will not take any passengers out of the country because of war restrictions, but Israelis willing to return will have the chance, a Transportation Ministry spokeswoman further noted.
In addition, Israeli flag carrier EL AL detailed on Monday that it might operate flights from 22 destinations in the U.S., Europe and Asia once Ben-Gurion Airport is open again.
Ben-Gurion Airport was shut down following Saturday's joint U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and high-ranking Iranian officials.
Around 100,000 Israelis were abroad, while some 33,000 foreign tourists were in Israel when the war began on Feb. 28.
