Enterprise Nationale d'industrie Petrochimique (ENIP), the petrochemicals subsidiary of Algeria’s state energy company Sonatrach, has awarded Invensys a two million dollar contract to upgrade outdated facilities at the company's petrochemicals complex in Skikda.
UK-based Invensys will upgrade the plant’s pneumatic boiler controls and burner management system. The new boiler control systems are scheduled for startup early in 2004.
This is the first of several similar control projects that ENIP plans to initiate in the coming years at the company's two large petrochemicals complexes. This Skikda complex consists of an ethane cracker producing ethylene.
Under a contract signed in 1971, Toyo Engineering of Japan built the 120,000-ton per year (tpy) ethylene plant, and in 1979 brought on stream a vinyl chloride monomer plant. A low-density polyethylene unit built by Snamprogetti of Italy started production in 1980. — (menareport.com)
