The Dubai-based Al Futtaim Telecom (AFT) and the French Alcatel have recently re-registered their agency agreement with the UAE Ministry of Economy and Commerce.
The new agreement reinforces AFT‘s position as the sole authorized importer and distributor of Alcatel mobile phones and enterprise communication systems, in the UAE. The revised agreement also covers a wider range of existing and future Alcatel products, as opposed to the earlier version, which was limited to a specific product line,
Revitalizing the agreement between the two companies became necessary as more and more handsets were brought in to the Alcatel service center, which do not bear the Alcatel hologram. According to the new agreement, selling these gray market imports is illegal and constitutes a punishable offence.
"Basically, the new agreement revitalizes our alliance, and brings it up to date. It will also provide an impetus in our efforts to curb parallel imports of Alcatel into the UAE, which has been hurting the brand across the region," said Alan Rooke, general manager of AFT. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
