The Iraqi Ministry of Planning and Developing Cooperation declared that the ministry directed $1.5 billion to develop the electricity sector throughout the country, Al Ittihad daily reported Wednesday.
"The allocated budget would be directed to develop and modernize the electricity network, such as the projects of providing electricity to all the regions, the projects of controlling the distribution networks, as well as training, equipping and services," an official at the projects and contracts office of the ministry was quoted as saying.
Iraq has suffered a shortage of electricity since the toppling of Saddam Hussein's regime because of the looting and the robbery that followed the US occupation. Power outages have been a regular feature of the post-war environment in the capital Baghdad. (menareport.com)
