ALBAWABA - A video from the Netherlands has triggered thousands of views and ignited wide reactions and controversy after a hijabi woman was seen pushing a police officer and running away.
A clip was posted online showing a Muslim woman wearing a hijab running from a policeman before she knocked him down and escaped at a metro station in the Netherlands. The officer went into the wall.
According to activists on X, the hijabi woman was allegedly harassed by the policeman, and then the tension escalated, leading him to chase her as she tried to escape. Others claimed that the Muslim woman was shoplifting, and that's why she was chased.
However, the real reason and what happened before he started to chase the woman is unknown, as no official statement was released regarding the clip.
On the other hand, reports on a similar incident revealed that two Muslim women were assaulted by police in the Netherlands; one was detained and charged with insulting an officer. However, both women have filed a racism complaint after receiving medical care. No confirmed updates on her status since.
In addition, it's worth noting that the Netherlands enforces a partial ban on face-covering clothing, commonly known as a burqa ban, in public spaces like schools, hospitals, and public transport, effective since August 2019. But the hijab is not, but hijab-wearing women report experiencing workplace discrimination and, in some cases, violence.
