ALBAWABA - Bavarian police officers have used a unique tactic to call attention to continuous shortages in uniform supplies: they have chosen to forgo pants.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, police can be seen walking the streets in only their shoes, duty belts, and headgear. The Bavarian Police Union President, Jürgen Köhnlein, stressed that the unusual protest was meant to draw attention to a critical matter.

The German Police Union (DPolG) released a video of officers without pants on April 1, revealing uniform procurement difficulties. In the film, officers discuss their four- to six-month uniform wait. Even with boots, duty belts, and caps, they are lacking pants when they exit the police cruiser.

Köhnlein expressed disapproval, emphasizing that police officers' inability to perform their jobs properly because of their subpar clothing is not something to chuckle about. The union emphasized that because of a lack of qualified workers and supplies, getting necessary uniform items—like pants, coats, and caps—now requires lengthy wait times.

The German Police Union said the COVID-19 outbreak and Ukraine's unrest have worsened the uniform supply situation. Köhnlein noted that officers use inventive methods like fixing damaged clothes. However, this short-term solution isn't sustainable, especially for new recruits without full uniforms.
