ALBAWABA - A shocking video has emerged on the internet, reportedly taken from the Syrian city of Raqqa on Wednesday, showing the ISIS flag, the famous black flag of the Islamic State, at the entrance of the governorate.
A man, who was believed to belong to the Syrian government forces, was spotted at the top of the entrance of the Raqqa governorate in Syria, holding the ISIS flag.
Several accounts on X posted the footage and wrote, "The flag of ISIS is flying over the gates of Raqqa again. Raqqa used to be the capital city of ISIS."
Fights have been going on between the Syrian army and the Kurdish groups, who have withdrawn from several cities, including east Aleppo and Raqqa.
In a statement, the Syrian army said it took 34 villages and towns in the region as it keeps taking over territories from Kurdish fighters and told the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to leave the area between the town and the Euphrates river, about 30km further east.
On Tuesday, Syria's Interior Ministry said that at least 120 members of ISIS fled a prison in Al-Hasakah Governorate after the withdrawal of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
It is worth mentioning that after ISIS seized Raqqa in early 2014, it became the group's capital and main administrative, military, and propaganda center following ISIS's declaration of a so-called “caliphate” in June 2014.
